Celerion, a leader in Early Stage Clinical Research, has an excellent opportunity for a full-time Principal Investigator/Clinic Physician at our Belfast, N. Ireland facility.

As a Principal Investigator, you will join our experienced, multi-disciplinary team and use your medical expertise to take an active role in the planning and conduct of clinical trials that involve both patient and healthy volunteer populations.

  • Review protocol and Investigator Brochure for subject safety, scientific and operational feasibility.

  • Prepare Ethics submission and other regulatory forms as required and attend Ethics committee meetings when requested.

  • Perform physical examinations and ensure proper consent has been obtained.

  • Review all screening data, ECGs, medical history and lab work prior to authorization of subjects being enrolled onto a study.

  • Review all safety data collected during the study and evaluate any adverse events data for drug relationship coding. Report any serious adverse events within statutory guidelines.
  • Perform end of study physical examinations and follow-up on adverse events.
  • Review Case Report Forms and inform Ethics committee of study completion

  • Provide technical and clinical expertise for initiatives and inter-departmental goals

  • Actively look for process improvements, identify trends in industry requirements, lead or serve on appropriate internal committees in order to drive quality and efficiency

  • Assist with developing/improving client relationships from a Principal Investigator perspective.

  • Represent Celerion during opportunities for collaboration with regional research, clinical, and academic institutions as well as identifying a network of physician specialists to contract on studies.


Working within a structured and highly regulated business environment, our ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to work collaboratively with our dynamic clinical research team and have a proactive interest in customer relations with both internal and external clients and regulatory agencies. Candidates must be skilled in handling multiple priorities, have excellent organizational skills and be able to contribute to and support business development interactions with clients and other external partners.

Knowledge/Skills/Education requirements:

  • Medical degree and full GMC registration

  • Current and up to date Advanced Life Support certification preferred but training will be provided

  • 2+ years post registration clinical experience

  • A relevant clinical research post graduate qualification eg. Diploma in Pharmaceutical Medicine or other equivalent MHRA-recognised qualification required 

  • Principal Investigator First-in-human PI experience required

  • Ability to work a flexible rota which will include early mornings, evenings and weekend events and on-call cover.

  • Celerion provides medical mal practice coverage for Celerion scope of work.


Training in Celerion Principal Investigator/clinical research physician responsibilities will be provided.
